The view from inside the industry.
Materials, making and the objects that end up in our hands.
I am Joe. I have worked in accessories for around fifteen years, and I work with Materik. This project starts with the questions behind an iPhone case: what it is made from, how it fits, how it is produced and what changes when we actually use it.
I want to bring that knowledge together with original sources, close-up photography and practical investigation. A clear description should let you see where the information comes from and what we still need to find out.
The relationship is part of the story.
My relationship with Materik belongs in the open. This journal covers Materik alongside other brands and identifies the source behind product information. Future product coverage will name gifts, loans, commercial links and brand relationships alongside the relevant content.
The personal archive comes next.
The detailed chronology of my work, the products I was involved with and the stories I can document will be developed from original material. The public history of iPod and iPhone gives context; it is separate from my own career timeline.
